The contents that make up this zine have been created by a group of 10 students from the Dereham Sixth Form College in Norfolk. They participated in a series of workshops led by Harry Dyer and Esther Priyadharshini from the University of East Anglia (UEA) with Lewis Wickwar, a digital arts practitioner and educator.
This zine is made up of the many conversations we had about AI in our lives and futures. It includes some of our playful creations with AI and VR tools, as well as traditional collaging experiments that helped us clarify our opinions, raise questions and express our mixed emotions. Not all our conversations and creations would fit into this zine. It is curated to include only some of our most salient talking points. It’s also a ‘snapshot in time’ as we can barely keep pace with the rapid, daily developments in the world of AI and our own ever-changing opinions, uses and desires for AI.
The zine, as it stands, nods to how we often see AI operating — it is produced as a not inaccurate ‘cover’ of all that unfolded during the workshops. We hope it conveys what we (largely) think about AI and the many questions that still remain about its presence in our lives and futures, both inside the classroom and beyond.
